Six of the twelve women on the board have an athletic build: slim shoulders, a narrow waist, the posture of someone who walks, dives or hauls kegs for a living. Leaving at dawn: Mckenna and Rowena
Mckenna, 31, a Denver craft brewer with freckles and tousled dirty-blonde hair, drives to Portland at dawn to open her own brewery. After two years together she wants one great night instead of a long sad one, and says so in lowercase.
Rowena, 35, a cruise ship director from Manila with long straight black hair, sails at dawn. All week she hosted other people's evenings; tonight, in a red-brick loft, she keeps one for herself and for you.
Leaving tomorrow: Su-lin and Zulema
Su-lin, 38, a corporate lawyer in Kuala Lumpur with a sleek high bun, moves to Singapore tomorrow. For years she was your closest friend and never crossed the line; with every box sealed, she decides the rules can go too.
Zulema, 32, a marine biologist who maps reefs off San Juan, leaves for two years at a research station in the Pacific. After her farewell party empties out, she names the closeness the two of you never named.
